Nancy Goudinaki’s Debut Jazz Album
by Gina P. Nelson
“I Wanna Be Your Star” (the English translation of her first original song written in Greek when she was 16 years old) is Nancy Goudinaki’s debut jazz album which is a story about celebrating and embracing life, pursuing and living one’s dreams. For Nancy Goudinaki, launching an album in “The Big Apple” is something that she dreamt of since starting her music career as a singer/songwriter and classical guitarist. “It was a dream of mine to follow in the footsteps of the Jazz giants whom I listened to as a young girl – Ella, Sarah, Carmen, Billie …This was the city that they adored and this was the city that transformed their music in so many ways.” In the last six years, Ms. Goudinaki has proven that she has been able to “take in” all the city has to offer, while at the same time making a name for herself in the jazz world.
On December 10, 2013, Nancy released her debut album, “I Wanna Be Your Star” featuring a stellar line-up of prominent NY jazz musicians. Her record is produced by renowned bass player Richie Goods. Grammy Nominated Pianist, Orrin Evans arranged several of the compositions on this album and is accompanied by three of New York’s finest jazz innovators- phenomenal bassist Dwayne Burno, soulful tenor saxophonist JD Allen and drummer Rudy Royston. Guest appearances by vocalist, Miles Griffith, percussionist Daniel Sadownick and bassist Richie Goods make this album a sure crowd-pleaser, which will appeal to all who are musically inclined – singers, songwriters, classical guitarists and lovers of jazz. Mr. Anthony Wonsey (NY Jazz Pianist) aptly stated: “Nancy and her band are a symmetrical musical match! Nancy’s voice and classical guitar work are exquisite!
The people of Greece should be very proud”.
We are proud, indeed, of this “up and coming” artist who hails from our beautiful country. Nancy’s record (with a personalized autograph) is available for purchase on her website www.jazzynancyg.com or at www.cdbaby.com/cd/nancygoudinaki
