Ernie Anastos, the distinguished and popular Emmy Award-winning broadcaster for Fox’s WNYW-TV in New York and the only New York TV anchor to receive the coveted Lifetime Emmy Award, is the newest addition to New York Institute of Technology’s board of trustees.

“Ernie’s professional contributions as an influential broadcast journalist and celebrated children’s author are significant, second perhaps only to his longstanding record of giving back and helping to make the world a better place. He embodies the values and attributes for which NYIT stands as a global university, and will be an exceptional addition to our board,” said NYIT Board of Trustees Chairperson Linda Davila.

“I have committed much of my life to sharing information and providing perspectives that encourage people to actively participate in the world with open minds. NYIT is pursuing a parallel path, through its mission to produce career-ready, globally competent citizens, and I look forward to working with the board and administration to continue solidifying its position among the leading institutions of higher education,” Anastos stated.

Anastos has an extraordinary record of achievement, including more than 30 Emmy awards and nominations. He also is the creator and host of the program “Positively Ernie,” which informs, entertains, and inspires viewers about people and stories that impact our community, country, and world.

As a dynamic New York Hall of Fame broadcaster, Anastos has covered major stories that have shaped the past three decades, including the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks. He met with Fidel Castro in Cuba to produce a series of special reports on the anniversary of the Cuban revolution. As part of an official pastoral trip, he has traveled to the war-torn countries of El Salvador and Nicaragua. Anastos has interviewed top world leaders including Presidents Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush, and Bill Clinton, as well as Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev and South African Bishop Desmond Tutu.

He has gained national experience as a news anchor and substitute host for ABC’s “Good Morning America” and the CBS Morning News and created and hosted informational programs for CBS, Lifetime, and ABC. He is also a celebrated author who recently introduced a series of children’s books, “Ernie and the Big Newz,” with proceeds donated to The Make-a-Wish Foundation. He graduated summa cum laude from Northeastern University.
