By on June 20, 2013

Cathedral School Parents’ Association “Glendi” Co-Chairs Roula Lambraki and Lilly Gerontis Pritchard organized the end of year fundraiser at the newly opened multi-level Anassa Taverna at Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

Eighth grade graduate Veronica Blau presented the honoree of the evening, Greek Consul Vangelis Kyriakopoulos with a painting made by the students of the Kindergarten class. “The Greek and Cypriot Consulate representatives serve an important role representing Hellenism and the Greek language. Our children, knowing the consul will be present put on their most respectful and proud face and are reminded of their heritage,” said Mrs. Roula Lambrakis during her remarks.

The hypnotic sound of Apollo Orchestra with virtuoso clarinetist Lefteris Bournias transformed a rainy Manhattan Monday into a sizzling summer Greek “Glendi.” Guests danced to the music by Lefteris, Rena Tsapelas, Thomas Vrettos, Mixalis Morakis and maestro Spiros Cardamis of diverse repertoire including jazz, standards, ballads, and plenty of Greek songs with even some international and latin thrown in.

A lively children’s art auction followed, orchestrated by Dimitris Diakolios and his wife Live. Cathedral School grandparents including Mr. and Mrs. Lambiris, Mrs. Contos, Mrs. Yiannos as well as many lumni starting from the Glendi Chair Lilly Gerontis Pritchard, Elias Lambiris and also Bill Mihas, Parent Association President, and raffle winner Stella Pantelidis, demonstrated their continued support for the school.

Cathedral School Board members in attendance included Roula Lambrakis, Lilly Gerontis Pritchard, John Pyrovolakis and Treasurer Elias Lambiris. The Cathedral Dean, Fr. Anastasios Gounaris opened the evening with the Benediction.

Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity Church Board members including Mr. and Mrs. Regopoulos, Mr. and Mrs. Ekonomou, Mr. and Mrs. James Pantelides enjoyed the evening as well as the objective of the night, to strengthen the future of the Cathedral School. In the words of Consul Vangelis Kyriakopoulos “the children represent all our hopes for the future.”

The Cathedral School is the only Greek Archdiocesan Orthodox School in Manhattan and Sonia Celestin is the principal.
