The program features Peter Tiboris, MidAmerica’s general director and music director, conducting The New England Symphonic Ensemble and the two winners of this year’s prestigious Maria Callas Grand Prix, held in March in Athens, Greece—soprano Yun-Jeong Lee and tenor Jaesig Lee. Ms. Lee and Mr. Lee will sing solo works and duets including Donizetti’s "Verrano a te sull'aure" (Lucia di Lammermoor), Mozart’s "Der Hölle Rache" (Die Zauberflöte), Donizetti’s "Una furtiva lagrima" (L'elisir d'amore), Gounod’s "Ah! Je veux vivre" (Roméo et Juliette), Donizetti’s "Favorita del re...spirito gentil" (La favorita), Rossini’s "Una voca poco fa" (Il barbieri di Siviglia), Donizetti’s "Ah mes amis...pour mon âme" (La fille du régiment), and Rossini’s "Tutto apprendi" (Guglielmo Tell).
On the same program, the eminent composer and conductor John Rutter, whose partnership with MidAmerica Productions dates back some 20 years, will celebrate his 100th performance with the company, leading his own Magnificat with Sarah Mattox, soprano, and a chorus composed of Columbus East High School Choir, IN; First Congregational Church Choir, Fall River, MA; Columbia Union College Chorale, Takoma Park, MD; Hannibal-LaGrange College Concert Choir, Hannibal, MO; Woods Chapel Church Choir, Lee's Summit, MO; Raytown High School Concert Choir and Camerata, MO; and Oak Harbor High School Choir, OH.
